Whether it’s a Jean Paul Gaultier crop top or a Chanel Medallion tote, Bella Hadid is the indisputable queen of vintage. But it’s not just her penchant for pre-loved fashion that makes her an exemplary eco-conscious shopper (wearing vintage reduces the environmental footprint of your wardrobe and prevents clothing from ending up in landfill) – the model is known for supporting independent brands that are championing sustainable practices, too.
So, if you’re looking for inspiration on how to shop more consciously this season, here are seven of Hadid’s favourite sustainable brands to invest in now.
Hadid joined the Emily Adams Bode fan club during lockdown in March 2020 when she posted an Instagram series featuring her “favourite yellow jacket” by the cult designer, who’s known for her repurposed and vintage-inspired pieces. In December, Hadid wore the brand’s preppy Victoria jumper while out in New York, paired with her statement Soulland Playboy trousers – proving just how versatile Bode’s eco-minded designs can be.
Another lockdown addition to Hadid’s wardrobe came in the form of Los Angeles-based artist Juliet Johnstone’s hand-painted trousers, featuring floral motifs and words such as “baby” and “love” in keeping with the Y2K trend we’re seeing all over our Instagram feeds. Making use of vintage Dickies and Carhartt trousers, Johnstone’s upcycled pieces not only boast strong sustainability credentials but are also unique.
Launched in 2019, Tank Air has fast won Hadid’s seal of approval with the model wearing the label’s ’60s-inspired floral mini dress on more than one occasion last summer. The slow fashion brand uses luxury deadstock fabric in order to reduce its environmental impact, with all pieces produced locally in Los Angeles.
