STAUNTON — Ten educators from the public schools in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County have been honored as 2021 Dawbarn Education Award winners.

The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge chose the individuals, who each receive a $10,000 cash award.

Per a press release, the Dawbarn Education Awards Committee, comprised of local citizens, select those nominees who go above and beyond the requirements of their assignments and who inspire and encourage students to reach their full potential.

Created in 1992, The Dawbarn Education Awards are named for the late H. Dunlop “Buz” Dawbarn, who established a $100,000 fund at the Community Foundation. He later added additional money to the fund through his estate.

“The single most important thing we’ve got to do as a society is educate people,” Dawbarn said at the time. “Democracy isn’t going to work in the long run if we don’t produce educated citizens.”
