Carol Slagh, Robyn Afrik elected to Ottawa Area ISD Board of Education

HOLLAND — The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District has a new board member.

Robyn Afrik, director of diversity, equity and inclusion for Ottawa County, was elected to the OAISD Board of Education during a meeting Monday, June 7.

Incumbent Carol Slagh (right) and newcomer Robyn Afrik were elected to the Ottawa Area ISD Board of Education earlier this week. They signed their oath of office paperwork Wednesday, June 9.

Afrik was elected to a four-year partial term expiring June 30, 2025. The seat was open following the death of longtime board member Ron Eding earlier this year.

Board President Carol Slagh, who has been on the board for 17 years, was reelected for another six-year term as well.

Afrik and Slagh signed their oath of office paperwork at a meeting Wednesday to make the election official.

Members of the OAISD Board of Education are not elected through a public popular vote, but by board of education representatives from the ISD’s member districts. Afrik and Slagh both ran unopposed.
