July will mark the return of Paris Couture Fashion Week, and will see more physical catwalk shows on the schedule than we have seen for a long while.
According to the provisional calendar published by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode yesterday, eight major brands will be hosting physical shows in front of a live audience, and these will also be live-streamed to fans at home.
The timetable shows that Dior, Chanel, Armani Privé, Balenciaga, Jean Paul Gaultier, Zuhair Murad, Azzaro Couture and Vaishali S will be hosting physical presentations, while another 25 brands will be sticking to a digital format.
“I think the time has come to return to show in front of a live public because I think fashion only in a virtual format has no future,” Giorgio Armani told WWD on the brand’s return to the runway. “A fashion show is a tool we cannot do without because of its format, energy and effectiveness. It’s important to restore the physical shows and they can then be translated in digital experiences for a global audience.”
Aside from the return of the buzz from more physical shows taking place, there is plenty more to look forward to this couture season. The week will see the return of Balenciaga to the schedule, the first couture collection from the house in 53 years. It will also see the long-awaited unveiling of Jean Paul Gaultier’s collaboration collection with Sacai, and will welcome Pyer Moss to the schedule to close out the week, making its creative director Kerby Jean-Raymond the first Black American fashion designer to take part in Couture Fashion Week.
