Summer can’t come soon enough. Sunny, zoom-free days are just around the corner, so it’s time to swap our oversized winter jackets for spaghetti straps and floral prints. Every summer new fashion trends make their debut and due to the monotonous routines we find ourselves in due to Covid-19, I have a feeling that this summer especially, the new styles will be revolutionary. Here are some of the latest trends to expect for summer 2021:

  1. Tankinis

When the beaches open up, people will be looking for the next swimsuit trend. There is nothing more flattering than drawing attention to the midsection. These suits are no longer just for sixth graders on summer camp or mothers on maternity leave. Mark my words: Rockinis with rock are going to be the next big thing.

  1. Moccasins with socks

I’ve always been a firm believer in wearing flip-flops with socks. Nothing feels better. And I’ve noticed that wearing moccasins with socks has been on the rise lately. You can see lax boys typically wearing this trend. However, I think it deserves to become a mainstream staple. So pull up your white socks as high as you can and buy yourself a pair of moccasins. During Covid we just want some comfort and what could be more comfortable than wearing sweaty socks and furry moccasins at 80 degrees?

  1. “I haven’t taken off my pajamas for a week”

Celebrities have had this style for a while – but if you’re not a celebrity, it won’t work. It’s time we citizens claimed this look for ourselves. We all wear pajama bottoms to class anyway (thanks to Zoom University). The pajama trend shouldn’t be limited to just LA pop stars or middle-aged men picking up their frozen TV dinners at the grocery store.

  1. Hawaiian button downs

What screams “summer” more than the tropics? You might not be traveling this summer, but you can make up for that by dressing like a tourist. If you need me for fashion advice this summer, you can bet I’ll be sitting in a garden chair by an inflatable pool in my backyard, sipping Mai Tais, and wearing one of my many palm tree shirts.

  1. Blue light sports glasses

Blue light glasses have been a new trend due to our longer screen life, and I think they will soon find their way into the sunglass shack. Nothing says, “I like partying and throwing football around” more than rocking these bad guys. Protect yourself from UV rays and look fashionable while doing it.

Fashion is not a statement unless it’s controversial or somewhat questionable. Much like modern art, the fashion industry is about challenging the norm at the expense of good looks. And while Covid is about making comfort a trend. Let’s push the boundaries of fashion further this summer and wear unparalleled, effortless styles with confidence.
